Constipation results when waste material moves
too slowly through the large bowel or colon, resulting in infrequent
and/or painful elimination. In most cases, constipation arises from insufficient
amounts of fiber and fluids in the diet.
The colon or large bowel is the holding tank for waste
matter that should be removed within eighteen to twenty-four hours. Harmful toxins can form after this period.
Antigens and toxins from bowel bacteria and undigested food particle may play a role in the development of
diabetes mellitus, meningtis, myasthenia gravis, thyriod disease, candidiasis, chronic gas and bloating,
migraines, fatigue and ulcerative colitis.
The frequency of "normal" bowel movements depends on the
individual and can vary from three times a day to three times a
week. In a scientific
experiment, the National Chiropractic Association
performed 2,100 autopsies. They concluded that the
average person is carrying around 5 to 40 pounds of
impacted fecal matter in their colon. How is possible? Following are some food for thought:
While constipation is not a disease in itself, it can give rise to many
different ailments, including bad breath, body
odor, fatigue, gas, headaches, asthma, allergies, breast disease, prostate trouble, hemorrhoids (piles), hernia, indigestion,
varicose veins, obesity, malabsorption syndrome, and appendicitis. It may also be
involved in the development of serious diseases such as bowel or colon cancer.
